Established by Mr Frank Ernest Marshall in Southowram near Halifax in 1924 to quarry and merchant Yorkshire stone, Hard York Quarries is the quarrying and stone sales arm of The Pickard Group.

Bradford Based Yorkshire Stone Merchant

Now based in Bradford in West Yorkshire, Hard York Quarries own five different Yorkstone quarries, which between them produce some of the finest natural Yorkshire stone available today. The quarries produce a range of products from very hard crushed stone for road works, Yorkstone blocks for sawing in our modern saw shed, through to Yorkshire stone riven flags, Yorkstone rockery and crazy paving for the highest quality landscaping works. Hard York Quarries also carries supplies of secondhand Yorkshire stone products.

Hard York Quarries has evolved into one of the leading players in the York Stone industry with supplies of Yorkshire Stone in its own quarries for the foreseeable future. Our quarries all date back to pre-1900s and, due to their location in the country, our stone is one of the few genuine Yorkstones still available today. It is now common for other sandstones to be passed off as Yorkshire stone. As other companies’ reserves of quality Yorkstone have been exhausted, Hard York Quarries has continued to develop its reserves. As they say in the quarrying industry, “whatever is left is the best” and in this case what is left has always been one of the best and is now a cut above the rest.
